ANNIE GET YOUR GUN

Last week we received a call from Roger's Memorial Theatre asking Bron to audition for the part of Little Jake in the musical Annie Get Your Gun. Bron had been referred by the director of our school play. He was darling at the auditions and he got the part. We practice almost every day, even on Saturday - three hours a day. (a bit more than I had expected) His part is also a lot bigger than I thought it would be with 15 or so speaking lines, several songs and also a short little solo. The play will have a one month run and he will be performing three times a week. I hope he can hold out. Working with adults has been fun for Bron. They are all so kind and cute with him.
I can't wait to see him perform.

Bronson is growing up. He looks so much older to me and he has really thinned out. He seems all bony now. He was assigned to pull all the weeds by the basketball hoop. He complained and whined and went about as slow as he could, but he managed to get every since weed, even if it did take him two hours. (he really did take two hours and he could have done it in about 15 minutes) We had a really weird episode with Bronson this last month. He was walking home from church through the field and a stick poked him in the side of his foot by his ankle. I don't know how that happened, but he was carried home by a neighbor boy. The stick was coming out the side of his ankle. I pulled it out. He said he couldn't walk and crawled around for the rest of the day. I figured he would stop crawling and jump up and play when we were with the cousins that night, but he didn't. The next morning he was crying in his bed and said he could not walk on his foot. It was swollen and hot where the stick had gone in, but nothing crazy. We took him to the doctor where x-rays and ultrasounds were done. Nothing was broken and there was no piece of a stick found in his ankle. They drew around the redness with a black sharpie and sent us home with Augmentin antibiotics. The next morning the redness had doubled in size. We took him to Primary Children's where they drew a line around the additional swelling. By the time the doctors could take the time with him, the swelling had grown considerably from where it was that morning. Bron was admitted to the hospital for IV antibiotics for 24 hours. We should have seen a marked decrease in the swelling. The swelling did stop, but did not decrease any and he still could not bare any weight on his foot. After about 36 hours we were sent home on two different antibiotic (something really strong that they don't like to give to people). After about another four days he was finally able to walk on his foot.

It is actually still swollen, but the redness and heat are gone. This seemed like such hassle for one stickin' stick.

Bron says he will never play in the field again. I hope he will, but he'd better not have another stick jump up and poke him in the leg again!

Thank you for the update about Bron's condition. What a crazy, fluky thing? Glad he's much better and going onto the big stage! That's pretty amazing to have someone call you for a part! Please take some video (if they allow it) and maybe we can see some clips of it?

Mason was in The Wizard of Oz at his school and has fallen in love with acting and performing. I'm a bit amazed as I tried to not push him too much toward anything in particular (it back fired with Zane, so I learned my lesson), but I've always hoped at least one of my kids would do some singing and acting, at least on a school level. So now my wish is being fulfilled! The funny thing is how Mason thinks he's doing something so new and different in the family?! It's amazing how clueless kids can be in regards to their parent's lives before they were parents? But no complaints, I must enjoy his enthusiasm while it lasts!

Oh, and I'm so excited about something I must share it with you as you'll appreciate it. Since Mason was in W of Oz, and I'm teaching some voice lessons to the daughter of the people who loaned us their van for Christmas, I decided I needed to brush up on some more recent musicals. I'd heard so much about 'Wicked' and knew the premise, but hadn't heard any of the music from a professional source. So with an iTunes gift card from Christmas, I blindly purchased the original broadway cast soundtrack. We've been listening practically none stop for almost 2 months now! Love it so much and Mason and I are having fun playing around with a couple of the duets. We're really liking "For Good" as it's in our range and has some power, but not too much yet. We're not exactly ready for any "Defying Gravity" attempts - too incredible!

Anyway, I've looked up a ton of info about the show online and have heard a few songs performed on Youtube, but to see it live would be incredible. The traveling show came to Nashville last year, so the closest one to us is in Louisville Kentucky (have Loren show you where that is, jk!) and of course, the tickets prices are so out of our league. But the other day, I checked again just for fun and found some tickets under $50 dollars, still too much, but much better than the $100 I was finding before. Unfortunately, I still couldn't swing the purchase. Then Zane came to the rescue and is giving me a terrific Mother's Day gift! He, Mason & I are going to see it on May 20th in Kentucky!!! We were lucky to get tickets since they are on the very top row two seats from the end, but who cares! Can you tell I'm pumped?! I haven't seen a professional play in over 6 years and my kids have seen very little in their entire lives so this will be a real treat!
Sorry for the crazy long post, but you're one that appreciates some of the same interests I have!
